BALTIMORE, Md. - The Haverford College women's tennis team (10-6) dropped their final non-conference game of the season to 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins (12-7) by a score of 7-0 on Sunday afternoon. The match, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 26, was pushed to Sunday, April 27, due to heavy rain on Saturday.
The Blue Jays claimed the lone doubles point of the match, claiming victories on all three courts to begin the day. On court one JHU's Ava Li and Kamila Wong, who are ranked 3rd in the ITA Atlantic South Regional doubles rankings, downed Rachael Fitzgerald and Mallika Reddy 6-1, before the Blue Jays notched the crucial doubles point on court three with a 6-0 win for Catharina Ausfahl and Bea Manjo over the pairing of Caroline Gay/Erika Phanord.
To wrap up doubles play, the Johns Hopkins pairing of Sophia Kim and Sahana Madala turned away Lucy King and Abhi Menon 6-2.
JHU extended its lead to 2-0 to begin singles play, as Aubrey Zhou got the better of Phanord 6-0, 6-0, on the fourth court, followed by a 6-0, 6-0, win for Zoe Hsieh against Gay on court six to give the hosts a 3-0 lead. The Blue Jays clinched the match at 4-0 on court three as Sahana Sanjeev (ranked 17th in the ITA Atlantic South Regional singles rankings) triumphed over Reddy 6-1, 6-1, on court number three.
The second court saw Kim prevail over King 6-0, 7-6 (7-2 tiebreaker), to make the score 5-0, before Jay Xiao (ranked 9th in the ITA Atlantic South Regional singles rankings) outdueled Fitzgerald 7-6 (10-8 tiebreaker, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5 superbreaker), in a three-set thriller. To cap off the 7-0 victory for the hosts, Audrey Wijono claimed a 6-7 (2-7 tiebreaker), 6-3, 1-0 (10-7 superbreaker) victory over Menon, that saw three hard-fought sets.
The match against the Blue Jays has finished the 2025 regular season for the Fords, as women's tennis now sets its sights to the Centennial Conference postseason. The Fords will host Franklin & Marshall at the Bettye Marshall and Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts on Friday, May 2, in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference tournament. The first serves for the postseason match will be determined on Monday morning's conference calls.
