Softball Falls to McDaniel in Season Finale Doubleheader

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College softball team (16-20, 4-12 CC) dropped its final doubleheader of the 2025 season to McDaniel (17-19-1, 6-10 CC) at Class of '95 Field on Sunday afternoon. The games, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 26, were postponed to Sunday due to inclement weather.

Game 1: McDaniel 5, Haverford 0

Game one saw McDaniel's Ally McBride pitch a complete-game shutout against the Fords, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out three over seven scoreless innings. At the plate, Addie Sapirstein, Abby Litchfield, and Abby Olivier each recorded one hit.

After Kaleigh Bodak and McBride each tossed a scoreless first inning, the Green Terror struck for two runs in the top of the second. With two runners in scoring position, McDaniel's Emma Taff singled through the right side, scoring Ashley Shawyer and Jessica Millard to give the visitors an early 2-0 lead.

McDaniel added two more runs in the third. An RBI double from Sariah Guevara extended the lead to 3-0 before Millard scored her second run of the day following a fielding error, pushing the advantage to 4-0.

McBride continued to dominate in the circle, shutting down the Scarlet and Black over the next three innings. She then helped her own cause in the top of the sixth, singling home Bella Sylvester to make it 5-0.

McBride closed the door on Haverford in the sixth and seventh innings, sealing the 5-0 shutout victory for McDaniel in game one.

Game 2: McDaniel 7, Haverford 5

Haverford found more success at the plate in game two. Maddie Etheridge led the Fords with two hits, while five different Haverford players recorded doubles, and Mia Kessinger crushed a solo home run in her final career game.

McDaniel opened the scoring in the top of the second when Jessica Millard crossed the plate following a single from Emma Taff and a throwing error by Haverford. However, senior pitcher Rachel McQueen limited further damage with help from a fielder's choice and a groundout.

The Fords faced a bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the third, but reliever Lauren Lamme came on and induced a double play, then struck out Millard to escape unscathed.

Haverford answered in the bottom of the third. Addie Sapirstein led off with a double, advanced to third on a McDaniel error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kamaha'o Bode to tie the game at 1-1.

McDaniel reclaimed the lead in the fifth, plating three runs. With the bases loaded, Ashley Shawyer reached on a throwing error to score Riley Jackson, and Sariah Guevara followed with an RBI single to right, scoring Libertie Schatzman. A wild pitch then allowed Rileigh Kitchin to cross home, giving McDaniel a 4-1 edge.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kessinger launched the 12th home run of her career, bringing Haverford within 4-2 heading into the sixth.

Unfortunately for the Fords, McDaniel tacked on three more runs in the sixth, extending their lead to 7-2.

After a quiet sixth and top of the seventh, Haverford came to bat needing five runs to tie. Sapirstein walked to open the frame, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a Lauren Martin groundout, and scored on an RBI groundout by Kessinger. Bode then doubled and scored on an RBI double by Kyra Van Denburgh, who later crossed the plate on an Etheridge single, trimming the deficit to 7-5. However, McDaniel ended the Fords' rally as Kyle Morano grounded out to close the game.

The doubleheader concluded the 2025 season for Haverford College Softball. The Fords have plenty to be excited about going into next year, as the Fords improved their win total by six games this season. Rookie standouts Kamaha'o Bode and Lauren Lamme are poised to help fuel a young and promising squad heading into the 2026 campaign.
