Baseball Erupts for Season-High Runs in 22-3 Win over Rosemont

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team (20-13) earned a victory in its final non-conference game of the regular season, putting up a season-high 22 runs in a 22-3 win over Rosemont (12-23) in seven innings. The win secures Haverford's third straight season with 20 or more victories and 16th in the Centennial Conference era.

Haverford's bats were the story of the game, as the Fords collected 19 hits, including three home runs and four doubles. Leading the way at the plate was Jonny Flieder, who went 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBIs, and a home run. Harry Genth went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBIs, and one home run. With Genth's second RBI of the game, the senior broke the all-time Haverford record for RBIs with 149. Genth then went on to add two more RBIs in the game, pushing his record-breaking total to 151. The senior also extended his hitting streak to 31 games, matching the third longest in Centennial Conference history.

On the mound, Alex Jenkinson earned his second win of the season, tossing six innings with nine strikeouts in a dominant showing against the Ravens.

Rosemont got on the board early in the ballgame, as a two-run home run from David McKinney gave the visitors a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.

Haverford answered back in the bottom half of the frame, as a Harry Genth double led to the senior stealing third base before coming around to score off a throwing error from the Ravens' catcher to even the game at 2-2.

Following a quiet inning from Jenkinson, Haverford scored its second run of the game off a fielder's choice from Matt Dahl that scored Jonny Flieder. After the Fords loaded the bases, a Genth two-run double drove in two more runs to give the hosts a 4-2 lead. The Fords then increased their lead to 5-2 off an RBI groundout from Jack Wallis.

Following a top of the third where Jack Woods hit an RBI double for the Ravens' third run of the game, Haverford put up a six-spot in the fourth inning to take a commanding 11-3 advantage.

Pranav Rane led the inning off with his third career home run, before a Wallis two-bagger scored Genth to make the score 7-3. Jackson Sgro then roped another RBI double to score Wallis, making it 8-3, before a Flieder RBI single drove in Sgro for the ninth Scarlet and Black run of the day. Kendrick Curry II then smoked a ground-rule double to plate Flieder for the Fords' 10th run of the game, before Curry II capped the inning by scoring on a wild pitch to fuel an 11-3 lead for Haverford.

The Fords then put up four more runs in the fifth, leading off with a sacrifice bunt from Chuck Norton, followed by a two-run shot by Flieder to extend the hosts' lead to 14-3. Curry II followed Flieder with a triple before coming home on a Dahl groundout to give the Scarlet and Black a 15-3 lead.

Haverford's bats continued to stay hot in the sixth, as a Genth two-run shot pushed the hosts' lead up to 17-3. With the bases jammed, Flieder recorded an RBI single for the 18th run, before a hit-by-pitch to Daniel Rosman forced Tommy Belman to cross the plate for the 19th run. The Fords then grabbed their season high in runs, as Mauro DeCillis walked, scoring Norton to increase the lead to 20-3. A fielder's choice from Rane tacked on the 21st Haverford run, before a pinch-hit RBI single from Miles Prusek drove in the Fords' 22nd and final run of the contest.

In the top of the seventh, Aidan O'Sullivan came in to relieve Jenkinson and shut the door on Rosemont, working around a pair of baserunners to secure the win.

Baseball will now return to Kannerstein Field on Friday, April 25, as the Fords host Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore at 3:30 p.m. in the final home game of the season.
