Women's Tennis Shuts Out Bears, 6-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team (8-5, 6-1 CC) picked up a 6-0 sweep over Centennial Conference foe Ursinus (10-7, 2-3 CC) at the Ace Bailey Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

Court two saw the first Haverford victory of the day in doubles, as the duo of Lucy King and Abhishree Menon shutdown Katie Yu and Morgan Coupe 6-0, before the Fords' Rachael  Fitzgerald and Mallika Reddy got past the team of Alessandra Armour and Bella Vassalluzzo 7-6 (7-1 tiebreaker) in a tightly contested match, to clinch the coveted doubles point. To round out doubles play on court three, the Bears tandem of Caroline Daly and Julia Nitz defeated Erika Phanord and Caroline Gay 6-3.

Up 1-0, Fitzgerald extended the visitors' lead to 2-0, after dismissing Armour 6-1, 6-0, in the top flight, before King downed Daly on court two 6-0, 6-0, for the Fords' third point of the day.

Reddy clinched the match at 4-0 on the third court, by turning away Yu 6-1, 6-1, followed by a 8-0 pro-set victory for Menon over Kate Rubinkam for Haverford's fifth point of the day.

Court number four saw Phanord collect a 6-3, 6-1, win over Vassalluzzo for the visitor's sixth and final point of the day. Due to sudden incoming wet weather the singles match of Gay and Coupe was rendered incomplete.

Women's tennis will be back in action on Saturday, April 19, in a big non-conference test as the Fords battle Stevens in Hoboken N.J. The match at the Stevens Tennis Courts will begin at 2 p.m.
