BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team (15–12, 4–6 CC) exploded for a season-high 19 runs in a dominant 19–9 win over Muhlenberg (14–15, 4–6 CC) on Monday afternoon. Originally slated for last Friday at Bicentennial Park, the game was moved to Lehigh University's J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park due to weather.
The Fords' offense was firing on all cylinders, led by senior Harry Genth, who went 3-for-4 with five runs scored, five RBIs, a grand slam, a walk, and two stolen bases. With his first run of the game, Genth became the Haverford College all-time leader in runs scored with 168, surpassing Ethan Lee-Tyson '19, who had 163.
Jack Wallis and Anthony Runfola also had standout performances, each collecting four RBIs and hitting a home run. Wallis went 4-for-5 at the plate, while Runfola launched a three-run shot in the seventh inning to help secure the win.
Haverford jumped out to a quick 3–0 lead in the first, as Genth was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a Runfola RBI single. Chuck Norton, Jackson Sgro, and Luke Treese added three consecutive hits to extend the early advantage.
Muhlenberg answered with two runs in the bottom half, but the Fords quickly responded. After a single by Genth and a bunt hit by Wallis, Genth stole third and scored on a fielder's choice. Sgro followed with another RBI, pushing the lead to 5–2.
The Fords broke the game open in the third, plating five runs highlighted by a grand slam from Genth over the left-field fence, the senior's conference-leading 14th home run of the season. Wallis later came around to score on a Sgro single, making it 10–2.
Cohen tossed a scoreless bottom of the third, and the Fords continued to pour it on. Miles Prusek was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a Genth RBI double. Wallis then connected for a two-run home run to give Haverford a 13–2 lead.
Muhlenberg got one back in the fourth, but Haverford answered in the sixth. Wallis drove in another run with a single, and Norton added an RBI double to make it 15–3.
The Mules mounted a rally in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs to pull within 15–9. A two-run single from Jack Kent and a two-run triple from Marc Quarrie highlighted the frame, but reliever Adam Naegelen escaped a bases-loaded jam to preserve the lead.
Haverford quickly responded in the seventh. Prusek doubled, Genth was intentionally walked, and Wallis plated Prusek with an RBI single. Runfola followed with a three-run blast to left, pushing the lead to 19–9.
Naegelen returned in the bottom of the seventh and retired the side to invoke the 10-run rule and secure the win.
Haverford will be right back in action on Tuesday, April 15, as the Fords host Ursinus at Kannerstein Field at 3:30 p.m.
