HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team (11-6) fell to TCNJ (11-7), 22-9, in eight innings at Kannerstein Field on Thursday afternoon, with action halting early due to darkness.
Tommy Belman came off the bench to record a pair of hits, while Anthony Runfola added a triple and a double to his ledger. Miles Prusek drove in a team-high three runs with a three-run homer in the fifth inning.
In a bullpen game, Thomas Ferguson was strong for the Fords, striking out all four batters he faced. Aidan O'Sullivan and Adam Naegelen each recorded three strikeouts, with Naegelen striking out the side in the eighth. In total, Haverford pitchers tallied 13 strikeouts.
TCNJ struck first in the opening inning against Ethan Goldstein. Mike Lagravenis walked, and with one out, Gianni Marano launched a two-run homer to left field, plating Lagravenis to open the scoring.
Haverford pushed a run across against Jordan Gray in the bottom of the frame. Daniel Rosman was hit by a pitch and came in to score when Runfola powered a booming triple into the right-center field gap, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Lions broke the game open with a big inning in the third, scoring four runs against Holden Pawlak. A Zach Weiner double down the right-field line was the key hit in the frame. TCNJ tacked on eight more runs later in the inning to take a commanding 14-1 lead.
Harry Genth notched a two-RBI single to pull two runs back for the Fords in the third. After a scoreless fourth inning, TCNJ added to its lead in the fifth, highlighted by a home run from Zach Hochheiser, pushing the visitors ahead 18-6.
Prusek and Chuck Norton each homered in the bottom of the fifth. Prusek launched his second career home run, a towering three-run blast, while Norton added his second of the season. Runfola added an RBI double in the seventh and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Fords now turn their attention to Centennial Conference action, with the opening doubleheader set for Saturday at McDaniel. First pitch is scheduled for noon in Westminster, Md.
