Women's Track & Field Posts Strong Results at Widener Indoor Classic

PHILADELPHIA - The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team wrapped up the two-day Widener Indoor Classic at Penn on Saturday afternoon, as day one took place at Widener University, with day two being held at the Ott Center on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

Women's shot put began the two-day event for the Fords, as Sarah Wilcher and Summer Ryan competed on Friday night under the lights of the Widener University Field House. Finishing 23rd was Wilcher, who tossed the shot put 10.42 meters (34 feet, 2.25 inches), followed by Ryan, who placed 32nd with a distance of 10.01 meters (32 feet, 10.25 inches). 

Day two inside the state-of-the-art Ott Center on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania started with the 60 meters, where Nadine Tang dashed to a time of 8.30 (8.292), to capture 29th in the preliminary rounds. Over at the 60 meter hurdles, Beatrice Di Girolamo once again picked up a new personal best, hurdling her way to 27th place with a time of 9.98.

Haverford was represented by four runners in the women's mile, with Anastasia Jaycobs earning a new personal best, darting to a time of 5:13.24, for 15th place. Savannah Shaw notched 35th with a time of 5:25.70, followed by Grace Chen, who crossed the finish line 39th, with a time of 5:27.04. Senior Dominique La Grenade rounded out the Fords' quartet, by finishing 40th, with a time of 5:27.75.

In the 800 meters, Rachel November once again led the charge, claiming 46th place with a time of 2:31.83. Right on her heels was Carly Priest, who ended the race in 47th with a time of 2:32.08. Jessie Hausman picked up 56th place with a time of 2:35.75, while Sophia Furman collected 62nd, with a time of 2:41.31.

First-year Bianca Ortiz notched a new personal best in the 3,000 meters, as the rookie secured 28th place with a time of 11:18.96. Her fellow rookie Dalia Smid followed Ortiz, placing 31st, after crossing the finish line in 11:44.24.

Over in the sand, Grace Hannigan collected 16th place, with a leap of 10.31 meters (33 feet, 10 inches). 

To cap off the evening, the 4X400 meter relay team of Anna Berry, Hannigan, November, and La Grenade, achieved a season-best time of 4:16.75, to grab 13th place.

Women's track & field will next compete on Saturday, February 22, inside the friendly confines of Alumni Field House, for the Keogh Invitational, starting at 10 a.m.
