Women's Basketball Closes Sunshine Shootout With 67-54 Win Over Curry

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Haverford College women's basketball team (7-4) closed out its two-game stint at the Florida Sunshine Shootout with a 67-54 victory over Curry (1-9) inside the Ocean Center, wrapping up the 2025 portion of its schedule on the sandy shores of the Sunshine State. Haverford pulled away with a dominant fourth-quarter effort, pouring in 23 points over the final 10 minutes. The Fords' defense played a pivotal role throughout, tallying nine blocks and eight steals while forcing 20 Curry turnovers.

Caroline Orza led all scorers with 25 points to go along with seven rebounds. Audrey Jakway delivered another strong double-double, posting a career-best 19 rebounds while adding 16 points and a career-best five blocks to assert her presence in the paint. Brianna Feifer made her mark defensively with four steals and two blocks, while Shae Mercer paced the offense with six assists.

Kasey Reeves led the Colonels with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, adding three steals. Ella Palanza chipped in 11 points and nine boards with two steals, while Lauren Dunn finished with seven points, three assists, and two steals. Samantha Conti rounded out Curry's contributors with three points, three rebounds, and two steals.

The opening quarter featured brief runs by both teams, with Dunn giving Curry its first real separation by knocking down a triple for a 10-7 lead. Reeves pushed the margin to five with a layup, but Haverford answered quickly as Orza connected from deep to trim the deficit to 15-12.

The Fords followed with a sustained surge, capped by a Georgia Koff-Gillmore three-pointer that tied the game at 18-18 at the end of the first quarter. The run grew to 11-0 early in the second, punctuated by a Bri Heafey free throw with 8:54 remaining.

After a prolonged scoring drought for both sides, Olivia Roy hit a basket to pull Curry within one at 23-22 with under four minutes left in the half. Heafey went 1-for-2 from the line and Orza finished a layup to force a Curry timeout, giving Haverford a 26-22 edge with 2:18 to play. Mercer later added a late layup as the Fords carried a 30-24 lead into the intermission.

Orza opened the third quarter with a three-pointer to stretch the lead to nine at 35-26, and Jakway's layup made it 38-28 with 5:24 remaining. Curry responded with a 6-1 run to close within six late in the quarter, but Koff-Gillmore beat the buzzer with a triple to restore a nine-point cushion heading into the fourth.

The Colonels kept knocking on the doorstep,  trimming the deficit to just two early in the final period before Orza answered from long range. That shot sparked an 11-0 Haverford run, as Orza struck again from beyond the arc and capped the stretch with a four-point play to make it 59-50 with 2:56 remaining, effectively sealing the outcome.

Haverford next returns home to open the 2026 portion of its schedule against Immaculata (8-2) at Gooding '84 Arena on Saturday, January 3. Tip-off for the first game of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
