READING, Pa. - The Haverford College men's basketball team (5–3) defeated Penn State Berks (2–9) by a score of 83–60 on Wednesday evening at the Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center. The Fords capitalized on 20 Berks turnovers, converting them into 23 points, while dominating the paint with 42 points and receiving a major lift from a bench unit that produced 37 points.
After an early 9–9 tie, the Scarlet and Black seized control with a 13–8 run, highlighted by back-to-back transition finishes from Adam Strong-Jacobson and Seth Anderson along with threes from Tyler Nolan and Carter Warren. The Fords' defensive pressure led to 10 first-half turnovers, resulting in 17 points, while additional key moments included a three-pointer from Raja Coleman at the 16:57 mark and steady scoring from Strong-Jacobson throughout the period. Haverford closed the half on a 9–0 run, capped by an Isaac Varghese three-pointer at the buzzer, to take a 43–29 lead into the break, fueled by 16 fast-break points, 22 points in the paint, and a 44.4 percent shooting mark.
The Fords carried its momentum into the second half, outscoring the Nittany Lions 40–31 behind efficient scoring and strong work on the glass. Strong -Jacobson opened the period with a three-point play and a Nolan triple pushed the lead to 49–29 just over a minute in. Haverford continued to extend their advantage, using an 8-for-18 stretch from the floor and 3-for-6 shooting from deep to build a 74–48 cushion with 6:42 remaining, highlighted by eight points from Strong-Jacobson and seven from Gaven Marr. The Fords dominated the boards with a 24–9 second-half rebounding edge that produced 20 second-chance points, while Penn State Berks received late contributions from Marquis Ferreira and Gabriel Harrison but could not cut significantly into the deficit as the Fords closed out the 83–60 victory.
Strong-Jacobson led the team with 21 points, converting 9 of 11 free throws, and added 10 rebounds. Nolan contributed 10 points, including two three-pointers, and recorded two steals. Carter Warren made an impact with five assists and two steals. Christian Uremovich scored eight points and collected nine rebounds.
Ferreira led the Nittany Lions with 16 points, shooting 7-for-12 from the field, including two three-pointers. Quentin Wright contributed significantly with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, achieving a double-double. Matthew Gingerich made a defensive impact with four blocks and two steals while also grabbing six rebounds. Jaedon Mast added seven points and was active defensively with three steals, complementing his 5-for-6 performance from the free-throw line.
Haverford returns home on Saturday, Dec. 13, for a non-conference matchup against Nichols at 12 p.m. inside Gooding '84 Arena.
