Unbeaten Run Reaches 12 as Men's Soccer Draws Washington College, 1-1

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The Haverford College men's soccer team (6-0-6, 1-0-3 CC) played to a 1-1 draw against Washington College (3-4-4, 0-1-3 CC) on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Stadium on Saturday, with the Fords' equalizer coming in the second half to stun the Shoremen. The result extended Haverford's unbeaten streak to 12 matches, continuing the best start to a season in the program's 124-year history. Haverford also matched the 2018 Centennial Conference championship team's 12 straight unbeaten contests overall.

Washington College opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Tshazi Kamau converted an olimpico goal off a corner kick, curling the attempt into the back of the net and giving the Shoremen a 1-0 lead in the early moments of the contest. Andrew Fritz responded with a shot in the eighth minute that was saved by Calvin Field. Both teams traded possession and fouls throughout the first half, with the Fords' defense standing tall against multiple set pieces from the Shoremen. Haverford entered halftime trailing 1-0.

The Fords leveled the match in the 56th minute when Thomas Vanni scored off an assist from Aiden Lee. Vanni rocketed a lofting shot off the crossbar, and the deflection found the waiting foot of Lee. Lee made a crafty move and passed back into the box to Vanni, who was waiting to slot the equalizer home for his second of the season.

Haverford continued to apply pressure, generating additional chances through Fritz and John Dowd. Benson anchored the defense with key saves, including a crucial stop against Wilken Bauer. Washington College pressed late with several corner kicks and shots on target, but Benson's efforts preserved the draw for the visitors.

Each team finished with seven shots, while Washington College held a 9-0 edge in corners. Benson made three saves over 90 minutes  to help keep the Shoremen off guard. Fritz registered two attempts, one on target.

For Washington College, Bauer and Ryan Sharpley each added a shot on goal, while Field made one save in his 90 minutes between the pipes.

Haverford now returns home to host The College of New Jersey on October 7 at Walton Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m in non-conference action.
