WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Haverford College men's basketball team (2-1) traveled to Lycoming College (0-4) on Saturday afternoon and secured a commanding 100-87 victory over the host Warriors. The Fords' 100-point performance marked the program's highest-scoring game since a 108-point showing against Ursinus on December 8, 2010.
Gaven Marr led the way with a career-high 27 points, shooting 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, with all of those triples coming in the first half. The Fords showcased a balanced offensive attack with five players scoring in double figures. Marr's effort was complemented by Harry Johnson's 15 points, Ali Kaan Bek's 14 points, Sir William Morman III's 13 points, and Adam Strong-Jacobson's double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds, including a game-high six offensive boards.
The game began with high energy right out of the gates, as Seth Anderson and Ivan Komitski traded three-pointers within the opening two minutes. Lycoming opened with a 9-5 run, highlighted by Hayden Pardoe's early triple.
Harry Johnson tied the score at 13-13 with a three-pointer at the 16:28 mark. The teams traded baskets before a 7-0 Haverford run gave the visitors a 22-17 advantage. Maintaining an aggressive tempo, the Fords started to pull away. Marr extended the lead to seven with a basket, making it 32-25 at the 9:19 mark, and then drained two more three-pointers to push the margin to 38-28 with 7:26 left in the half.
Lycoming responded with a 9-2 run, cutting the deficit to one point. However, the Fords answered with a 6-0 spurt, capped by Marr's three-pointer off a Carter Warren assist, restoring a seven-point lead with under three minutes remaining in the half. Morman added a three-pointer at the 1:58 mark, and Strong-Jacobson's layup ensured the Fords entered halftime with a 53-46 advantage.
The hosts opened the second half with a 4-0 run before Warren responded with a jumper in the paint. Isaiah Valentine's three-pointer brought Lycoming within one, but the Fords countered with a 9-2 run. Harry Johnson contributed a three-pointer and a layup during this stretch, prompting Lycoming to call a timeout at 13:34 with Haverford leading 66-58. Lycoming closed the gap back to three points after a Noah Mathis tip-in, but Morman scored the next four points, including a fast-break layup to restore a five-point cushion at 10:44. His second-chance jumper from the elbow pushed the lead back to seven at the 10-minute mark.
Strong-Jacobson and Morman each added key baskets during a 8-0 run, extending Haverford's lead to 11 at 76-65. Kaan Bek's clutch three-pointer stretched the margin to 12 with 6:27 left, and Marr's layup provided a 14-point cushion at the 6:38 mark.
Lycoming continued to battle, cutting the deficit back to nine following another Valentine three-pointer. However, Bek scored four consecutive points to give Haverford a 91-76 lead. Warren sealed the game with a dagger three-pointer at the 2:12 mark, pushing the Fords ahead 94-79.
Haverford held a 51-46 rebounding edge, including a critical 23-17 advantage in the second half. The Fords dominated in transition, outscoring the Warriors 23-13 in fast-break points and adding 15 second-chance points. For the hosts, Pardoe registered a double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds and 20 points.
This contest marked the third all-time meeting between Haverford and Lycoming. The Fords previously secured a 70-65 win in last season's home opener and an 82-64 victory in Williamsport during the 2019 season.
Men's Basketball faces a quick turnaround, with a Tuesday night contest on the docket at Gooding '84 Arena. Haverford will welcome Immaculata to campus for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
