Women's Basketball Dispatches Swarthmore, Landau Reaches 1,000-Point Milestone

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team (6-9, 3-7 CC) secured a 51-41 victory over Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore (7-8, 5-5 CC) inside the Gooding '84 Arena on Wednesday evening. Senior Ally Landau made history, becoming the 11th player in the program to reach 1,000 points with a jumper at 2:09 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Landau achieved 1,000 points in just 60 career contests, solidifying her position as one of the program's most prolific scorers heading into the final months of her undergraduate career.

The Livingston, N.J. product led all scorers with 19 points and 11 rebounds, earning her third career double-double. Gia Flamini was outstanding with 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals, including a 3-of-5 mark from beyond the arc. Abby Ryan contributed seven points, nine rebounds, and five assists in a well-rounded effort.

The Garnet started aggressively, opening with a 9-4 run, but Haverford responded with Landau's back-to-back buckets, ending the first quarter ahead by two. In the second quarter, Ryan and Siena Emuobor's back-to-back shots extended the lead to 22-16. Landau's three-pointer and Wingfield's response left the Fords up by three heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, Landau's offensive prowess, along with key contributions from Ryan and Emuobor, extended the lead to 34-26. Flamini's emphatic triple and success at the free-throw line gave Haverford a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter.

Landau continued her offensive dominance in the final stanza, with the Fords reaching a 12-point lead at 9:25 in the fourth. A 6-0 run by Garnet prompted a Haverford timeout, but Flamini's three-pointer restored a 9-point cushion. Landau reached her milestone at the 2:09 mark, securing a 10-point lead and sealing the victory in the process, as the Garnet did not score from that point.

The Garnet, led by Norah Wingfield with 12 points, couldn't overcome Haverford's all-around strong performance. Dana Bandurick was instrumental for the visitors, narrowly missing a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Haverford shot 36.4 percent compared to Swarthmore's 27 percent, with a rebounding advantage of 46 to 35.

Women's Basketball gained a crucial half-point in the Hood Trophy rivalry series, with the next action in the series scheduled for February 14 at Swarthmore. The Fords will face the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside the Mayser Center, followed by the Haverford men taking on F&M at approximately 3 p.m.
