Women's Soccer Edged in Centennial Opener at No. 19 Dickinson, 2-1

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (3-2-1) scored first, but was edged late by host No. 19 Dickinson (5-0), falling by a 2-1 final on Saturday afternoon in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.

Haverford got the offense working quickly, with Jaclyn Corbin firing a shot in just the fifth minute of action. After successfully defending a pair of Dickinson attempts in the attacking third, Haverford got on the scoreboard first with an own goal after earning its opening corner of the contest. A strong attempt sailed into the box and deflected off a Dickinson defender and into the net, giving the Fords an early lead in the 32nd minute of play.

The Fords took that advantage into the intermission, but Dickinson broke through in the 69th minute of play with Meg Tate finding the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1. The last shot for either team came in the 84th minute, with Tate finding Lexie Greene for the game-winner as Dickinson rallied to escape with the home victory. Hannah Friedrich made her return to goal for Haverford, logging all 90 minutes and notching the game's only save for either side in the first half.

Women's soccer will now look to bounce back this coming week with a pair of Centennial Conference matches on the horizon. Haverford heads to Chestertown for a midweek matchup at Washington College on Wednesday (7 p.m.) before returning home to face No. 3 John Hopkins on Saturday, September 25 (12 p.m.).
