BALTIMORE, Md. - The Haverford College baseball team (20-20) saw its spirited run through the Centennial Conference tournament end in the championship round on Monday afternoon at Babb Field. The host No. 21 Blue Jays (30-11) prevailed with an 11-1 victory to take the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. 

Sophomore Andrew Johnson got the start for the Fords, as his outing was highlighted by an impressive second inning. Johnson struck out the side, working around a one-out double. In the third, Johns Hopkins put together a seven-run rally to pull away from Haverford. First-year Eric Kopczynski had a stellar outing in relief, as he notched 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out a pair. Kopczynski kept the Blue Jays off guard with his mixture of off-speed and breaking pitches.

Senior Sam Partee roped a leadoff double in the sixth, and Haverford pushed a run across in the ninth as Nick Perez lined a leadoff single, stole second, and came around to score on a single from Ethan Lee-Tyson. Lee-Tyson capped a standout Centennial Conference tournament with a two-hit afternoon. Seniors Tom Phillips, Austin Castellanos, and Daniel Joffe combined to work the eighth inning in their final appearances on the mound for Haverford.

The Fords finish with 20 or more wins for the 13th overall season and the eighth time in the the last 10 campaigns. The senior class of Castellanos, Luke Duris, Joffe, Lee-Tyson, Partee, Perez, Phillips, and Jared Turner notched 85 wins over the last four seasons and earned three trips to the Centennial Conference tournament, taking a conference title in 2016. 

The Fords will now look forward to the release of the Centennial Conference postseason honors, which are slated to be released on Tuesday afternoon (3 p.m.)
