Baseball Suffers Defeat to TCNJ

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team lost to the College of New Jersey Lions, 10-1, at Kannerstein Field on Friday afternoon.

The Lions jumped in front on a two-run single by Josh Limon with two out in the top of the first inning, but Haverford cut its deficit in half with a RBI single by senior Casey Fox in the bottom half of the frame.

TCNJ's Patrick Roberts homered to right center in the third frame to put the visitors ahead 4-1. In the next inning, Roberts tallied his second round tripper to put the Lions ahead by a commanding 8-1 score. The New Jersey Athletic Conference foe had two more home runs in the game to wrap up the scoring.

The Fords finished with nine hits in the contest. Fox, freshman Matt Goss, and junior George Hatamiya recorded two hits each. Goss has multi-hit outings in three of his last five games while Hatamiya has hits in five of his last six. Goss and Fox also had stolen bases.

Freshman Mike Schmandt had an extra base hit and also threw a scoreless inning in relief. Freshman Patrick O'Shea did not allow a run in his one inning out of the bullpen and has a scoreless streak of 5 1/3 innings.

Roberts finished with three home runs and six RBI for the Lions while Joe Cirillo gave up an earned run in seven innings of work for the victory.

Head coach Dave Beccaria's squad will host Johns Hopkins in its Centennial Conference opener for a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
