Mutty Sets Career High in Fords' 3-2 Win Over McDaniel

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior Meg O'Day tied her career-high with 22 kills while junior Nina Mutty had a career-high 16 kills to help the Haverford College volleyball team (8-6, 2-0 CC) defeated the McDaniel College Green Terror (10-4, 0-2 CC) 3-2 on Wednesday at the Gooding '84 Arena.

After suffering a 25-19 loss in set one, the Fords rebounded with the final four points in the second set to win 25-21. O'Day had four kills on five attempts while Mutty also added in four kills in the set. Haverford had a .282 attack percentage which helped even the match at one. 

With the score tied at 11 in set three, the Fords scored four straight points to take a 15-11 advantage. Haverford maintained their lead before the Green Terror went on a 7-2 run to tie the score at 22, but O'Day ended the set with three straight kills to give the Fords a 2-1 lead in the match.

After McDaniel took the fourth set 25-22, Haverford would take the fifth and deciding stanza 15-11. The Fords scored four consecutive points to take a 10-5 lead which led to a McDaniel timeout. The Green Terror followed with three straight points before sophomore Elena Garcia had two straight kills to keep the Fords in front 12-8. McDaniel called their second timeout down 13-11, but O'Day punctured the match victory with two straight kills.

Freshman Zoe Wong helped pace the Fords' offense with 27 assists and had 11 digs for her third career double-double. Haverford had four players finish with at least ten digs in the match, led by senior Madison Fuelling's 25 digs. Junior Keri Godbe had 13 digs and finished one kill shy of a double-double. The Fords also finished with 10 team blocks in the win.

McDaniel was led by Reagan Folaron and Kloe Martin, who each posted a double-double. Folaron had a team-high 14 kills and 14 digs while Martin had 13 kills and 15 digs in the loss.

The Fords get back in action on Friday when they take on Widener at 5 p.m., as part of an Eastern University quad match. They defeated Widener 3-0 on Aug. 30 in the Haverford Invitational.
