Volleyball's Win Streak Ends at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE – The Haverford College volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak come to end as it fell to the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays 3-1 at the Goldfarb Gym on Saturday.

The Fords found themselves down 15-9 in the first set, but rallied to tie the score at 22. After some back and forth, the visitors scored the final two points to win 27-25. Haverford had only two errors in the set.

The two teams traded points for a majority of the second set before the Blue Jays jumped in front 19-15. Haverford cut the deficit to one, but the Blue Jays took the set 25-21. Hopkins won the set despite only having a .100 attack percentage.

Johns Hopkins took the third set (25-20) and the fourth set (25-19) to take the match. The Blue Jays had a .267 attack percentage in those sets while keeping the Fords to a .115 attack percentage for the match. The Fords had 20 errors in the match, marking the first time they've had at least 20 errors in back-to-back matches since Sept. 27 (Eastern and Salisbury).

Junior Keri Godbe recorded a double-double with a team-high 17 digs and 11 kills. Junior Jeanna Kenney also had 17 digs while junior Olivia Walsh had a team-high 15 assists in the loss. Liz Wuerstle had a match-high 18 kills while Carolyn Zin had 26 assists in the win for the Blue Jays.

Haverford falls to 16-8 on the season and 6-1 in the conference while Johns Hopkins improves to 13-10 and 4-2 in the CC. The Fords are tied for second in the conference while Swarthmore is on top at 7-0. Those two teams will meet at Swarthmore on Nov. 1. Haverford will get back on the court on Tuesday at the Gooding '84 Arena against Bryn Mawr at 7 p.m.
