Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fords' 1st-half run leads to 2nd straight win

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Brett Cohen and Lucas Colombo registered double-doubles in helping Haverford College's men's basketball team win its second in a row with Sunday afternoon's 69-56 non-conference victory over host DeSales University in the Cougars' home tournament.

The Fords (4-5) broke away from DeSales (7-4) after Cohen tied the score at 16-16 with a layup at the 10:51 mark of the opening half. Haverford out scored the Cougars by a margin of 24-10 over the remainder of the half to take a commanding 40-26 lead into the break.

DeSales trimmed the deficit to 10 points five minutes into second-half action but Haverford wrested momentum back and stretched its advantage to as many as 18 before settling for the 13-point win.

Cohen led all scorers with 26 points and his game-leading 11 rebounds gave the senior his second consecutive, and fourth of the season, double-double. Colombo notched a 10 point, 10 rebound afternoon to record his first double-double of the year.

Both Louis Cipriano, with 11 points, and Matt Sherman, with 10, reached double figures in scoring for the Fords. Backcourt leader Gibby Graves dished out a game-high six assists while chipping in with six points and one rebound and coming up with five steals in the defensive end of the court.

Mike Coleman's 16 points led DeSales' offense in the Cougars' second loss in a row.

Sunday's win by the Fords comes after an 87-61 victory Saturday over Medgar Evers College. A 50-point first half spurred Haverford to the win in the tournament's opening game.

Haverford steps back into Centennial Conference action with its next outing, an 8 p.m. game at Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday.
