Fords fall to Red Devils

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team saw its three-game win streak come to a close Saturday afternoon as it fell 9-6 to Dickinson College in Centennial Conference action at Swan Field.

The Fords (4-6, 2-2 CC) took the early 2-1 lead in the contest on goals by Megan Gallagher and Josie Ferri. After the Red Devils (5-6, 2-2) knotted the contest at 2-2 with 20 minutes left in the half, Diana Perry tallied her team-leading 19th goal of the season to give Haverford the narrow lead with nine minutes to go before intermission.

Dickinson answered back right before halftime to forge a 3-3 tie at the break.

The game remained tight over the opening minutes of the second half before the Fords struck twice in a matter of 13 seconds. Converting back-to-back free position shots, Perrin Downing scored at 23:54 and Ferri quickly followed with her second of the contest to stake Haverford to a 5-3 lead.

The Red Devils rallied with five-straight goals to open an 8-5 lead before Downing's second successful free position shot of the day moved the Fords to within 8-6 with six minutes remaining on the clock.

Kelly Haglund's third goal of the day, with 2:23 left, closed out the scoring in the contest and helped Dickinson claim the victory.

Ferri and Downing finished with two goals apiece. Gallagher and Diana Perry each chipped in with one. Alexa Pesce added an assist.

Haverford registered 24 ground balls on the day. Gallagher and Ferri led the effort with four apiece.

Leah Hammerschlag (4-6) made nine saves in the loss.

Haglund took game-high honors in points (five) and goals (three) to lead the Red Devils. Amanda Morse (5-6) earned the win in goal.

The Fords head to Catholic University on Tuesday afternoon for their final non-conference game of the season. The contest against the 18th-ranked Cardinals starts at 4 p.m.
