Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Fords unable to ground Blue Jays

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team received another three-goal effort from freshman Diana Perry but it was not enough on Wednesday night as it fell in non-conference action to Elizabethtown College, 15-6, on Swan Field.

This was the first ever matchup between the Fords (1-4) and the Blue Jays (3-2).

Picking up where she left off last game, Perry opened the scoring for Haverford with a free position shot 10 minutes into the contest after Elizabethtown had scored the first two goals of the game.  Megan Gallagher followed suit with a successful free position shot of her own later in the half but the Fords could not slow down the Blue Jays' offensive attack as they tallied six of the last seven goals of the stanza to stake an 8-2 lead at intermission.

Haverford, undeterred by Elizabethtown scoring the first two goals of the second half, dug down and reeled off four of the next five to draw within five, 11-6, with 14 minutes remaining. The Fords would get no closer however, as the Blue Jays closed out the scoring on the night.

Jen Schmidt chipped in with two goals and one assist for Haverford. Gallagher tallied an assist in the second half to go along with her first half goal.

The Fords were a perfect 10-of-10 on clears in the second half and 16-of-21 for the game.

Haverford's defense did an impressive job of shutting down Elizabethtown leading scorer Leigh Flounlacker, who came into the game with 15 goals on the season, limiting her to just one score on the night. Kara Solesky led the Blue Jays with three goals.

Leah Hammerschlag made several tough saves over the duration of the contest and finished with 10 saves overall.

The challenging schedule continues for the Fords on Saturday when they open Centennial Conference play by welcoming top-ranked Gettysburg College to Swan Field for a 3 p.m. contest in the second of three consecutive home games.
