Trio of Fords lead 2nd-half rally, but come back falls short at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Haverford College's second-half rally wasn't quite enough in Wednesday night's 74-65 loss to host Ursinus College in Centennial Conference men's basketball action in Helfferich Hall.

Cam Baker posted a double-double for Haverford (3-4, 2-2 CC) scoring 25 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, both game highs, and picked up offensive help in the second stanza from teammates Lucas Colombo and Louis Cipriano who each reached double-digits in scoring over the final 20 minutes.

Colombo scored 12 of his 14 total points while Cipriano added 10 of his 13 during the Fords' second-half rally from a 17-point Ursinus (4-4, 3-1) advantage.

Haverford broke out on top quickly in the opening half, streaking out to a 12-6 lead over the host Bears in the first five minutes of action.

A 20-2 run by Ursinus erased the early lead as Haverford went cold over the final 15 minutes of the half, finishing the period hitting 25 percent of its shots from the floor compared to the Bears' 46 percent.

Ursinus' halftime lead of 31-20 grew to a 51-34 edge with 11:52 to play in the game, but Baker and company trimmed the lead to six with 3:45 to play. The Fords could inch no closer, though, were forced to foul and watched the Bears knock down nine consecutive free throws to ice the win.

Haverford forced 15 Ursinus turnovers, scoring 16 points off those miscues, and finished with six steals in the loss.

Next up for the Fords is a Saturday trip to Lancaster, Pa., where they will take on eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall College in another Centennial contest.
