Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fords unable to pull off upset of #2 Va. Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Haverford College's men's basketball team picked up points from 11 different players including 24 off the bench, but were not able to slow down the high-flying offense of second-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College in a 99-47 non-conference defeat Sunday afternoon in The Batten Center.

Haverford (4-9) was knotted at 6-6 with the Marlins (11-1) two minutes into the game, but the hosts reeled off a 14-4 run over the next five minutes to pull away from the upset-minded Fords who downed Centennial Conference foe Dickinson College on its own court Saturday afternoon.

Freshman James Levine came off the bench and led the team on the glass pulling down five rebounds for the Fords. Freshman Gibby Graves, with five points, and sophomore Sean Bernhard, with four, also came off the bench and helped Haverford in its offensive end.

The Fords' attack was led by senior Ian Goldberg and sophomore Louis Cipriano who each tallied nine points. All of Goldberg's came from behind the arc as the guard was 3-for-4 in three-point shooting in the loss.

DJ Woodmore registered 21 points to lead Va. Wesleyan's offense while Donald Vaughn added 18 and notched a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Fords jump back into league play with their next outing, a road trip Thursday, Jan. 12 to Westminster, Md., where they will square off against McDaniel College at 8 p.m.
