HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team
rode Dominique
Meeks' 19 points and its biggest first-half offensive
output of the season to a 60-48 win over Albright College
in a non-conference match-up at Gooding Arena on Saturday
afternoon.
The Fords (8-3) picked up their fourth win in the last five
games. Albright fell to 4-9 with the loss.
A layup by Meeks at the 15:49 mark gave Haverford an early 9-6
lead. The Lions responded with a 10-2 run over the next two and a
half minutes to go ahead by five, 16-11, which would wind up being
the largest lead they would enjoy on the afternoon.
The Fords put on an offensive show over the next nine
minutes as freshman guard Elizabeth
Lynch's three pointer at the 13:09 mark kicked off a 25-4 run
for Haverford. The Fords would drill 10 of
their next 14 shots with six players contributing in the
run to jump out to a 16-point advantage, 36-20, at the 4:08
mark of the first half. The two teams traded baskets the next
four times down the floor before Albright scored the final
three points of the half to trim the Fords' cushion
to 13, 41-28, going into the break.
Haverford was able to maintain a comfortable lead
throughout the second half. Meeks' tally from inside the paint with
2:31 remaining pushed the Fords' advantage to 18, 59-41, as
they closed out the victory.
Meeks' efforts were her fifth double-figure
scoring output in a row. She also added five steals. Victoria
Sobocinski and Calla
Miller helped the cause with nine points, while
Sobocinski pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Fords on the
glass.
Jenny Knoebel led Albright with 14 points and Meghan
Boyle grabbed 12 rebounds.
Haverford returns to Centennial Conference action Tuesday night
when it welcomes Dickinson College to Gooding Arena. Game time
is set for 6 p.m.
