Men's tennis opens conference season with victory at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Haverford College's men's tennis team earned its first win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 Centennial Conference victory over host Gettysburg College.

The Fords (1-4, 1-0 CC) picked up two points from Kevin Caulfield in the conference-opening match against the Bullets (2-1, 0-1).

Caulfield teamed with Danny Himelstein for a win at No. 1 doubles, then took down Gettysburg's Chris Curran, 6-2, 7-5, in the No. 1 singles slot.

Haverford finished doubles action with a 2-1 lead after Matthew Cebul and Natty Sergay at No. 2 added a win to the Fords' point from the No. 1 pairing.

All five singles victories by Fords players were in straight sets. In addition to Caulfield's win, Haverford  registered points from Andy Dougherty at No. 2, Matt Romei at No. 4, Jacob Weisenthal at No. 5 and Will Garrett at No. 6.

The Fords jump back out of league play for their next match, this Thursday afternoon, when the Hornets from Kalamazoo (Mich.) College visit the Bramall Courts at 3:30 p.m.
