Men's basketball falls to Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Haverford College men's basketball team could not hold on in a 64-41 loss at Gettysburg College on Dec. 3 in Centennial Conference action. Despite the Fords leading for the first 12 minutes of action, Gettysburg pulled ahead with 58 percent field goal shooting to take the win.

Haverford suffered its second conference loss and go to 1-5, 1-2 CC, while Gettysburg holds a 4-3, 2-1 conference record.

Haverford junior Cam Baker led the Fords with 12 points, while sophomore Brett Cohen added 11 points and five boards for the Fords. Gettysburg was led by Christian Bors with 14 points.

From the get-go, the Fords pulled ahead, leading by as many as six in the first half (19-13 in the 10th minute).  However, Gettysburg pieced together a 15-2 run and eventually held a 34-24 lead at the half.

In the contest, Haverford was outscored in the paint 36-22 and off the bench 27-4.

It was more of the same in the second stanza, as Gettysburg stayed up.  Haverford senior Bo Friddell hit two free throws to put the Fords within four (38-34), but another home team run, this time 16-2, kept Gettysburg ahead for the remainder of the contest. Friddell finished with six points, while fellow senior Ian Goldberg notched seven and three boards for Haverford.

The Fords season continues at home on Wednesday, Dec.7 against Ursinus College at 8 p.m. in Gooding Arena.
