HAVERFORD, Pa. - Each team seemed to hold an advantage for a half but the Haverford College women's soccer team ruled the overtime period and eventually got a game-winning goal from Elizabeth Levitan to take a 1-0 Centennial Conference win Saturday afternoon over the visiting Bullets.
Levitan took a pass from teammate Michele Buonora and used a quick one-step move to get around Gettysburg keeper Allie Rivera then buried the winning shot into the back of the Bullets' goal in the seventh minute of the first overtime.
For the game Gettysburg owned a 9-5 advantage in shots but Haverford led 3-2 in shots on goal.
The Fords (5-2, 2-0 CC) held a slight edge during first half action but Gettysburg (5-3, 1-1 CC) nearly owned the second 45 minute stanza piling up eight shots to just one from the home team.
Rivera stopped both Haverford shots that made it on frame during the first half and Fords keeper Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds registered saves on both Bullet shots on goal in the second half.
The Fords began to pressure the Bullets' defense early in extra time. Katie Van Aken got off a shot that sailed a little left of the post 2:55 into the OT and shortly after a failed clearing attempt the Fords were back on the attack ending with Levitan's second marker of the season.
Herrick-Reynolds picked up her third shutout of the year and 13th of her career moving the senior into a tie for second-most in program history.
The Fords stay within conference play for their next outing, a Tuesday night, September 28 contest at Muhlenberg.
