Men's tennis wins fifth in a row

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Haverford College men's tennis team kept the ball bouncing their way with a dominating, 9-0, Centennial Conference win over host McDaniel College Saturday afternoon.

The Fords (8-3, 5-2 CC) broke out on top 3-0 over the Green Terror (4-9, 0-7 CC) with wins at all three doubles positions.

Jacob Weisenthal at No. 2 singles and Matthew Cebul at No. 3 clinched the team victory for Haverford with straight set wins.

At No. 1, Hailiu Yang and Ben Faber of McDaniel had split the first two sets but Yang prevailed in the third to keep the threat of a sweep alive.

With the match clinched, the remaining singles competitions at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 finished in pro-set style. Joseph Tan took No. 4 by an 8-2 score, Aaron Weitz won out, 8-0, at No. 5, and Lowell West captured the final point with an 8-1 win at No. 6.

Each of the five wins in the streak by Haverford have come against conference opponents helping the Fords bounce back from an 0-2 start within the league.

Haverford will aim to lengthen the streak with an away match this Tuesday at Swarthmore College (6-8, 5-1 CC), and will then close out the regular season schedule with a home match against 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins University (13-4, 6-0 CC) this Saturday.
