HAVERFORD, Pa. – Eleven different players scored for the Haverford College women's lacrosse team in Wednesday night's 19-1 Centennial Conference victory over visiting Bryn Mawr College at Swan Field. The Fords have never lost to the Owls posting a 20-0 record against their local rivals.
Haverford (11-2, 4-2 CC) was led by Perrin Downing's four scores and Josie Ferri's three goals and two assists. Teammates Brighid Kelly and MaryAlice Postel registered their first goals of the season, with two apiece, in the win.
Gabby Marangell scored the lone goal for Bryn Mawr (0-11, 0-6 CC).
The Fords got off to a hot start on the chilly night scoring the first six goals of the game over the first seven minutes of action before Marangell would put the Owls up on the score board off a free position opportunity.
Downing then netted her second of the night to start a nine-goal barrage that gave the hosts a 15-1 halftime lead.
Along with Downing, Ferri, Kelly and Postel, Alexa Pesce also registered a multiple-goal night with two scores in addition to her two assists.
Haverford hounded the Owls into 23 turnovers and led the battle for ground balls with a 21-12 advantage.
The victory pulls the Fords back into a third place tie with Ursinus in the league standings. Heading into Wednesday's games the Fords and Dickinson were tied at 3-2 with the Red Devils scheduled to play at No. 6 Gettysburg while the Fords and Owls were battling on the Main Line.
The Fords will take on one of the teams chasing them in the conference rankings Saturday afternoon as Haverford travels to McDaniel College (8-5, 2-4 CC) for a 1 p.m. contest.
