Fords dispose of Dips, 7-2

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team remained undefeated in Centennial Conference play with a 7-2 victory at Franklin & Marshall College Saturday afternoon. Haverford took all three doubles points and won three of four singles matches in straight sets.

The Fords had to work hard to earn victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions in doubles. Katie Wettick and Jaclyn Porter fought off Meredith Lackey and Dana Russo for an 8-6 win at the top spot. Katie Drooyan and Rachal Torg also won by a 9-7 count over Katie Ertel and Shannon Littlefield at No. 3.

Wettick, Fumiko Shogase and Sarah Gibson took straight set victories at the Nos. 1, 5 and 6 spots, respectively, in singles. Drooyan pulled out a three-set win against Valeri Harteg at No. 4. Drooyan won the first, 6-3, but fell in the second, 4-6. She rebounded in the third set, 7-5.

With the win, Haverford improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial.

The Fords will be home Thursday when they host Washington College at 3:30 p.m.
