HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse squad put on an offensive show in their 19-1 non-conference victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.
The Fords (7-0) were able to take advantage of a young, first-year Scarlet Raptors (1-2) program by accumulating 34 points (goals plus assists) in the contest which is fifth most in the program's history.
Teammates Alexa Pesce and Josie Ferri each registered five assists in the win which left the pair tied for fourth-best in the program's single-game rankings. Pesce finished the day with a game-high seven points while Ferri had six points.
All 11 field players notched a goal for Haverford in the win led by Jen Schmidt's three scores. Perrin Downing, Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds, Liz Mayell and Pesce tallied two goals apiece for the Fords. Caroline Malapero, Kristin Sockett and Grace Stockbower were each credited with their first collegiate goal against the Raptors.
Haverford got rolling quickly after the opening draw control as Schmidt took a feed from Pesce and scored the game's first goal just 67 seconds into the first half.
By the midway point of the half, the Fords had built a 7-0 lead but Lequida Joseph got Rutgers-Camden on the board with her first goal of the season coming at the game's 13:47 mark.
The Fords eventually took an 11-1 lead into the intermission and closed out the second half with eight goals on 15 shots while limiting the Scarlet Raptors to just one shot and no goals over the final 30 minutes.
Haverford closed out its non-conference season-opening stretch with an unblemished record and now enters Centennial Conference play beginning with their next outing, a Noontime contest next Saturday at Swan against visiting Muhlenberg College.
