Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fords men win third in a row

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Getting on a hot streak at the right time, the Haverford College men's basketball team won their third straight with a 62-50 victory over visiting McDaniel College in Centennial Conference action Monday night.

On a Bo Friddell three-pointer, the Fords (8-12, 6-8 CC) nabbed a 10-7 lead at the 13:40 mark of the first half then never trailed though McDaniel (8-13, 4-10 CC) kept within striking distance into the early minutes of the second half.

Finally, with a slim 30-28 lead early in the second, Haverford reeled off a 12-4 run that elevated the lead to 10 where it hovered through to the final buzzer.

Haverford took a 28-24 lead into the locker room with the five starters scoring 24 of the team's 28 points. The Fords and Green Terror shot fairly evenly from the floor but Haverford stepped to the free throw line 16 times, making 11, compared to just one shot from the stripe by McDaniel.

Baker kicked off the decisive second half run with a short jumper. A Matt Palmer layup following a steal by Friddell added to the growing lead but McDaniel cut back into the margin with a pair of free throws by Woody Butler.

Friddell made one of two from the foul line then Baker hit a running jumper followed by a trey from Friddell the next time down the court. Ian Goldberg's layup closed out the run and the Green Terror never got closer than seven the rest of the way.

Friddell tied a career-best with his game-high 20 points for the Fords. He shared top billing in rebounding with Baker as each pulled down seven off the glass. Baker also reached double-figures at the offensive end adding 16 in the win.

Butler led the Green Terror with 13 points in the loss while Marcus Dyson added 12.

Haverford has little time off before its next outing after the weekend's snowstorm forced the rescheduling of the McDaniel game to this evening. With only one day to prepare the Fords will entertain Ursinus College on the Gooding Arena floor Wednesday night in a conference match-up that tips off at 8 p.m.
