Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball unable to tame Bears

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Nina Voith's double-double wasn't enough Thursday night as the Haverford College women's basketball team fell, 67-51, to the visiting Bears from Ursinus College in Centennial Conference action.

Voith led all scorers with 16 points and ended with a game-high 16 rebounds. Teammate Dominique Meeks also reached double-digits scoring 14 while Sara Cram pulled down 12 boards for Haverford (5-16, 3-14 CC) in the loss.

Ursinus (10-12, 7-10 CC) opened up a 7-1 lead quickly after the opening tip but the Fords battled back to take a 10-9 lead minutes later. The Bears broke out to a six-point cushion again at 20-14 but, once more, Haverford rallied to wrest the lead away at 21-20. However, a 12-4 run to end the half allowed Ursinus to take a 32-25 lead into the break.

Second half action saw the Bears stretch their halftime lead to as many as 15 approaching the midway point but Haverford's defensive pressure began to force a few turnovers that the home team turned into points cutting the deficit to only seven with just under six minutes remaining. As in the first half, though, Ursinus closed strongly finishing the game on a 13-4 run to pick up the win.

Four Bears scored in double figures led by Jaclyn Hilf's 13 points and Ryann Burke's 11. Lindsay Teuber registered a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, before fouling out late in the game.

Haverford heads back into action Saturday in Baltimore with a conference match-up at Johns Hopkins University beginning at 3 p.m.
