Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Early goals lead women's soccer to 2-0 win over Washington

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Two goals 10 minutes apart in the first half was all the Haverford College women's soccer team needed to defeat Washington College, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon at Walton Field in Centennial Conference action. The victory is the fourth consecutive shut out and seventh of the season for Haverford.

The Fords took 23 shots and maintained possession for most of the game. Washington (4-8-1, 0-7-0 CC) managed just 11 shots most of which were low percentage shots from well beyond the 18 yard line.

In the 18th minute Haverford (10-4-0, 5-2-0 CC) got on the board when Meg Boyer sent a beautiful pass from the left side to a streaking Katie Van Aken in the box. Van Aken put the ball in the bottom left corner of the goal.

Ten minutes later the Fords added another goal on an Anna Rayne free kick from 25 yards out. Rayne placed the ball perfectly over Washington goalkeeper Tori Ripple's head.

Despite a two-goal advantage, the Fords still kept the pressure on Washington, taking 15 shots in the second half and holding the opposition to just seven.

Ripple made seven saves for the Shorewomen while Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds had six stops to record her seventh shutout of the season and 17th of her career.

The Fords travel to Carlisle, Pa. this Saturday to take on first place Dickinson College at 3:30 p.m.
