ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team fell to 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins University, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in a semifinal match-up of the Centennial Conference tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College.
The Fords (12-3-3) got a career-high eight saves from goalie Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds who kept the score close against the nationally-ranked Blue Jays (15-3).
Hopkins generated a total of 31 shots compared to seven by the Fords, and held an 11-3 edge in shots on goal in a win that sends the Blue Jays into Sunday afternoon's championship final against Dickinson College, 4-2 winners over host and top-seed Muhlenberg in the other semifinal.
Haverford was in a hole almost from the opening whistle after Hopkins scored just 29 seconds into the game. The Fords' attack never got untracked as the Blue Jays accumulated the first 13 shots of the contest before Hannah Davis' shot on Hopkins goalie Karen Guszkowski in the 28th minute.
Less than three minutes later Hopkins sent a cross into the box which Herrick-Reynolds was able to deflect away but the Blue Jays' Caitlin Moore found the loose ball and made it 2-0 two-thirds of the way through the half.
A late goal with 15 minutes to play in the game iced the win for the Blue Jays.
The loss closes out the playoffs for the Fords who now are forced to play the waiting game for the possibility of an at-large bid into the NCAA championship.
