HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team fell to ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins University, 2-1, in a Centennial Conference battle Saturday afternoon at Walton Field.
Katie Van Aken's goal in the 55th minute cut the Blue Jays' lead in half but Haverford (6-2-2, 1-2-0 CC) was unable to pull even over the remaining 35 minutes.
Following a Johns Hopkins (9-2, 4-0 CC) score in the 51st that put the visitors up 2-0, Erin Dowling got the ball into the feet of Van Aken who put a shot towards the low, left side of the goal beating goalie Karen Guszkowski and trimming the lead to one.
The Fords out shot the nationally-ranked Blue Jays 18-15 and put eight shots on goal compared to six by Hopkins. Haverford's Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds made four saves in goal in the loss while Guszkowski earned the win for the Blue Jays making seven stops.
Haverford will finish a three-game home stand on Wednesday afternoon when league opponent Ursinus College visits Walton for a 4 p.m. match.
