Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Early goals help Eagles soar past field hockey, 3-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Three goals in the first seven minutes by Eastern University was the difference in a 3-1 victory over the Haverford College field hockey team Thursday afternoon. Playing under torrential downpours, the Eagles did not let the weather stop them from taking 19 shots in the contest.

Haverford (4-8) could only muster up five shots on goal despite taking 11 shots on the day. The Eagles took nine shots on goal with two different players taking three each.

Kimberly Campbell scored the game's first goal, less than two minutes in on an assist from Elya Troup. Olivia Derr scored in the fifth minute then added another in the seventh to stake the Eagles to a commanding three-goal lead.

In the 29th minute a penalty corner by the Fords led to their only goal. After a shot by Alex Waleko off the insertion, Juliana Morgan-Trostle collected the carom and sent the ball into the cage for her first goal of the season. Haverford had a few opportunities in the closing minutes of the opening half, but Eastern (11-4) goalkeeper Laura Ressler came out of the goal and stepped in the passing lanes.

The Fords held Eastern to just two second half shots, but offensively the Scarlet and Black could only get two on goal.

Maggie Cronin made six saves in the loss for Haverford while Ressler had four for the Eagles.

Haverford returns to Centennial Conference play Saturday when they travel to Franklin & Marshall College for a 1 p.m. start.
