BRYN MAWR, Pa. – In the annual neighborhood battle, the Haverford College women's soccer team came out on top, 2-0, over host Bryn Mawr College Wednesday afternoon in a Centennial Conference match-up.
Anna Rayne's goal off a direct kick in the first half proved to be the game-winner for the Fords who improved to 8-2-2 overall and 3-2 in the league while the Owls fell to 5-7-1 and 0-6.
Leading up to the opening goal Haverford outshot their hosts by a 7-2 margin. Finally, in the game's 27th minute, Rayne sized up a free kick from a little more than 20 yards out and just wide of the right post then hammered a shot towards the upper left corner that snuck under the cross bar to give her team the lead.
The Fords' other score came midway through the second stanza when a Haverford corner kick opportunity from Sarah Andrade caromed off a Bryn Mawr player into her own goal.
The plucky Owls got off seven shots on frame which were all stopped by Haverford keeper Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds who recorded her sixth shutout of the season.
Bryn Mawr's Rebecca Joseph registered eight saves while surrendering two goals through 70-plus minutes between the pipes and Allaina Propst added five saves in relief without giving up a goal over the final 19:22 for the Owls.
The Fords stay within the conference for their next game which will be a 3:30 p.m. Saturday contest at Franklin & Marshall College.
