Sophomore Sam Yarosh continues expanding his role as a member of
the Haverford College community.
As a freshman, Sam was an integral member of the 2012 Haverford
men’s soccer team that captured the program’s first
Centennial Conference championship and reached the second round of
the NCAA tournament. Sam’s efforts were awarded with an
All-Centennial honorable mention selection. In 2013, Sam was
awarded first-team all-conference honors for his contributions in
bringing the Haverford men’s soccer team its first ever
first-place finish at the end of the regular season.
Off the field, Sam is involved in a variety of roles and
activities. Sam serves as a sports information intern for the
Haverford Athletic Department, as well as game day operations for
the men’s and women’s basketball and lacrosse teams. He
is also a member of the Customs Review Committee.
As a star on the soccer field, Sam also holds his academics in
high regard. A standout physics major, he works as a
teacher’s assistant with the Haverford Physics
department. Sam will be utilizing these skills at Haverford
over the summer where he will be working as a summer research
assistant.
When asked how he is able to effectively balance his athletic
and academic commitments, Sam responds, “As a freshman, I
took my cues from the upperclassmen I met through my time on the
soccer team and on my customs team," said Yarosh. "One of the
reasons I chose to attend Haverford was the unique
interconnectedness of all aspects of life on campus. I
don’t see athletics, being a teacher’s assistant, and
working as separate commitments, but all part of my greater
Haverford experience.”
Sam will be submatriculating as part of Haverford’s new 4
+ 1 program, working toward his Masters in Engineering at the
University of Pennsylvania while finishing his undergraduate degree
in Physics. Sam plans to use his engineering degree to find a
job in the physical, medical, or financial sector.
Sam’s ability to maintain his athletic and academic
interest epitomizes the balance needed to be a successful
student-athlete at Haverford College.
