Junior Abigail Moeller successfully balances life as a
student-athlete and a dedicated member of Haverford’s
community, demonstrating what it means to be a Ford.
As an English major/psychology minor, Abi is extremely
interested in public health. Hoping to someday work in primary
care, Abi explains that her dream job would be “becoming a
pediatrician and working with underserved rural populations.”
Abi plans to work for an NGO related to public health or teaching
for a few years prior to applying to medical school.
When asked about her experiences with soccer Abi shares that
“participating in Haverford Athletics has given me a new
family that I never could have imagined. Coming in as a walk-on, I
never thought I would have the opportunity to play in college and
I’m grateful that I became part of the women’s soccer
team.” She explains how there is “nothing like getting
out of class and having two hours on the field to practice with
[her] best friends.” Besides helping her team win the
Centennial Conference title last season, Abi is most proud of the
hard work her team puts into each aspect of their lives: practice,
academics and extracurricular activities.
In addition to playing soccer, Abi is involved in
Haverford’s community. She has been a PAF (Peer Awareness
Facilitator) and a PAF Co-Head. Abi is also a staff member at the
Women’s Center, a tour guide and host for the Office of
Admissions, a member of the Sneetch’s (Haverford’s own
Ultimate Frisbee team), as well as a student representative for the
Arboretum.
One of Abi’s favorite events she planned for the
Women’s Center was hosting a brunch with former varsity
women’s athletes. “It was inspiring to hear all of the
stories of female athletes and the obstacles they had to overcome,
especially when the college just started to admit women,” she
described. “It was a privilege to hear these women’s
stories and a reminder of how far women’s athletics have come
in the past few decades.” Abi’s involvement in a
multitude of clubs and organizations outside of athletics
demonstrates what it means to be a Haverford student-athlete.
Abi is appreciative of all of the wonderful individuals she has
been able to work with, on the soccer team and beyond. Her
involvement at Haverford, on and off the field, truly displays just
how capable and dedicated student athletes are here at
Haverford.
SAAC is the College’s student-athlete advisory committee
which discusses issues that affect the well-being of
Haverford’s student-athletes on campus and within the
Centennial Conference and the NCAA. For more information, please
