Senior softball player Marina Zambrotta has been named the SAAC
Featured Student-Athlete. A four-year starter, two-time Centennial
Conference Academic Honor Roll selection, and team captain,
Zambrotta has found numerous ways to contribute to the softball
program during her career.
“Marina does it all,” said head coach Jen Ward.
“The commitment and dedication she brings to this program are
rare. She has done everything asked of her day-to-day and
year-to-year with no complaints or excuses, only the determination
to get the job done.”
Through her example, Zambrotta is a role model to her teammates.
She consistently works hard to improve herself and everyone around
her. She is always prepared to listen to a teammate’s
concerns or feedback and initiate action to help the team improve.
Zambrotta does not seek attention or recognition for herself, but
instead is eager to do what she can to make her teammates and team
successful. If it’s coming up with a big play in right field,
putting down a sacrifice bunt, or warming up a pitcher, Haverford
softball can count on Marina to make it happen.
The list of roles Zambrotta has filled is anything but short.
She has started 125 games in four years. Playing a majority of her
games at third base and right field, she has started at six other
positions as well (catcher, second base, shortstop, left field,
center field, and designated player).
Zambrotta is equally as productive off the field. Majoring in
biology with a neural and behavioral sciences concentration, she
spent last summer working in a microbiology lab in Ghana
researching antibiotic resistance. This summer, Zambrotta will be
interning at the Neurodevelopment Center in Providence, R.I., which
specializes in innovative approaches to treating psychiatric and
behavioral disorders.
She recently organized a series of Anatomy and Physiology
Workshops exposing interested Haverford students to these topics.
Planning to go into pediatrics or psychiatry, Zambrotta will spend
the next few years gaining clinical and research experience before
applying to medical school.
