PHILADELPHIA – Eight Haverford College spring
student-athletes were named to the Philadelphia Inquirer
Academic All-Area Team, in their respective sports, as voted on by
the sports information offices at the 28 institutions from the
Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Joseph Carpenter (men’s track & field), Josie Ferri
(women’s lacrosse), Mike Galetta (baseball), Dillon Hamill
(men’s lacrosse), Max Hjelm (men’s lacrosse), Aileen
Keogh (women’s track & field), Andrew Lanham (men’s
track & field) and Mara Miller (women’s track &
field) represented Haverford.
Carpenter finished 16th in the 5,000 meter run at the NCAA
Division III Track & Field Championship in May. He is a
six-time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll awardee and was
named to the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area
Team in cross country.
Ferri finished her sophomore campaign leading the Fords with 71
points, 49 goals, 41 draw controls and 11 free position goals. Her
efforts on the field earned her First-Team All-Centennial
Conference and Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association
(IWLCA) First-Team All-Regional honors.
Galetta finished third for Haverford with a .364 batting average
while driving in 28 RBI and scoring 30 runs. He tied for second on
the team with five home runs and was named to the Centennial
Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Hamill’s 48 caused turnovers were 18 more than the closest
figure from any other player within the Centennial Conference while
his 43 ground balls were third-most on the team. Hamill earned
Second-Team All-Centennial Conference and Centennial Conference
Academic Honor Roll honors.
Hjelm was named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse
Association (USILA) Third-Team All-America and First-Team
All-Centennial Conference this season. He led Haverford and
finished second in the Centennial with 39 goals while his 3.53
points per game ranked as the best in the conference.
Keogh was the Centennial Conference indoor champion in the 800
and a member of the school record-setting 4x400 relay team
(outdoor). She was named to the Centennial Conference Academic
Honor Roll’s for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Lanham is no stranger to the all-area team. He was previously a
recipient in track & field, (2009) and men’s cross
country (2009, 2008). Lanham was a nine-time Centennial Conference
Academic Honor Roll awardee and received an NCAA Postgraduate
Scholarship in February.
Miller was a Centennial Conference champion in the long jump
(indoor & outdoor), 400 hurdles (outdoor) and 4x100 relay
(outdoor) this season and graduated with the school record in the
long jump (outdoor) and 4x400 (indoor) and 4x100 (outdoor) relays.
She was a six-time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll
selection and during her senior year received the Haverford Ambler
Award given to the senior athlete with the highest cumulative
grade-point average.
