HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College men's cross country sophomore Wade Garoutte has been named the Centennial Conference Athlete of the Week following his performance at Friday's Haverford Invitational. The award marks the first weekly conference honor for the Northern California product.Â
Garoutte, a San Francisco native and University High School graduate, led the Fords to a second-place team finish, placing 12th overall in a field of 108 runners. He covered the four-mile course at the Fran Rizzo Cross Country Course at Haverford College in 20:27.9, finishing as the top Division III runner in the field.
The sophomore paced a tightly packed Haverford contingent that placed three runners among the top 15 overall. Oliver Barr followed just one-tenth of a second behind Garoutte in 13th (20:28.0), while first-year Nico Oshunrinade finished 15th (20:33.6). Just 5.7 seconds separated the Fords' first three finishers. Haverford totaled 44 points, finishing behind Division I Saint Joseph's (26) while placing ahead of Division II programs Wilmington (73) and Jefferson (82).
The Fords now turn the page to the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Fran Rizzo Cross Country Course at Haverford College.
