BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Haverford College men's cross country team competed in the Paul Short Run's Open Race on Friday morning at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus. The Fords were also scheduled to compete in the Men's College White Race later in the day, but the event was canceled due to the heat.
In the Open Race, sophomore Gabriel Bernstein paced the Scarlet and Black, finishing 220th overall in 27:39.2 on the 8K course. First-year Kai Aizawa followed closely behind, crossing the finish line in 234th place with a time of 27:43.0, while fellow first-year Kieran Berna finished 247th in 27:50.6.
Senior Gopal Patel was Haverford's fourth finisher, placing 274th in 28:05.6. Sophomore Will Tew followed in 328th (28:29.9), while sophomore Liam Deimler (28:40.0) and senior Cullen Worth (28:41.3) finished just over a second apart in 351st and 352nd, respectively.
First-year Malcolm Barry-Kao (28:57.2) and sophomore Wyatt Grace (28:57.5) also finished in quick succession, placing 385th and 386th. First-years Ethan Baloyo (29:43.7), River Capek (29:45.5) and Christian Kim (29:47.8) were the next three Haverford runners across the line, finishing 452nd, 455th and 459th, respectively.
Other Haverford finishers included senior Yupei Sun (30:15.6), junior Tate Sheehy (30:21.4), first-year Gideon Rosinplotz (30:36.4) and junior Nicky Elias-Gillette (30:49.8). First-year Aaron Groverman (33:08.4) and sophomore Garrett Miyagawa (33:08.5) rounded out the Haverford contingent, crossing the finish line just one-tenth of a second apart.
The Fords will return to action Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Connecticut College Invitational in Waterford, Conn. Racing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
