HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track and field team hosted the Haverford Tri-Meet on the Johnson Track as well as the Haverford College Throwing Facility on Tuesday afternoon. The meet was filled with many new personal bests and two program top 10 marks from Grace Hannigan.
Paving the way in the long jump, Hannigan leapt a new personal best distance of 5.15 meters (16 feet, 10.75 inches). The distance recorded is now tied for eighth all-time in Haverford history with Marisa Antinori '20. Adriana Cruz-Soto placed second by leaping a new personal best distance of 4.92 meters (16 feet, 1.75 inches), while Beatrice Di Girolamo secured third with a new personal best jump of 4.82 meters (15 feet, 9.75 inches).
Garnering fourth place was Ella Fleming, who soared to a distance of 4.62 meters (15 feet, 2 inches), while Zofi Sanders rounded out the group in fifth with a recorded distance of 4.29 meters (14 feet, 1 inch), a new personal best.
Hannigan then once again took home first place, this time in the triple jump, as the sophomore totaled a new personal best distance of 10.86 meters (35 feet, 7.75 inches). The magnificent leap is now tied for fourth all-time in Haverford history with Merrill Keane '01.
Over at the throwing area, starting off with the javelin throw, Summer Ryan launched the javelin 25.23 meters (82 feet, 9 inches) for first place in the event. She was followed by Beatrice Di Girolamo, who tossed the javelin 19.06 meters (62 feet, 6 inches) for fourth place, before Ella Fleming secured sixth with a distance thrown of 17.80 meters (58 feet, 5 inches), a new personal best.
Summer Ryan had another first place finish in the shot put, as the senior threw the shot put 10.68 meters (34 feet, 11 inches), a new personal best. Di Girolamo placed sixth with a distance thrown of 9.22 meters (30 feet, 3 inches), followed by Fleming in seventh, who tossed the shot put 7.58 meters (24 feet, 10.5 inches), another new personal best.
Sarah Wilcher claimed first place in the discus and hammer throw. At the discus, Wilcher launched the discus 35.57 meters (116 feet, 8 inches), before throwing a distance of 39.79 meters (130 feet, 6 inches) in the hammer throw.
In the 100 meters, Nadine Tang led a group of five Haverford runners with a new personal best time of 12.99 for second place. In third was Adriana Cruz-Soto who ran a new personal best time of 13.38, followed by Abby Ryan, who ran a new personal best time of 13.90 for fourth place. In fifth was Sophie Gardiner, who dashed to a personal best time of 14.07, before Zofi Sanders claimed sixth with a time of 14.16.
Tang then moved over to the 200 meters and took home first place with a time of 28.04. Brianna Fiefer secured second with a personal best time of 28.48, followed by Abby Ryan in third with a time of 28.49, and Gardiner in fourth with a personal best time of 29.71.
Over at the 400 meters, Carly Priest notched first place with a personal best time of 1:06.14. Veronica Kanachova followed Priest with a second place finish, dashing to a time of 1:09.07.
Fresh off her record-setting performance, Anastaia Jaycobs led the 800 meters once again, earning first place with a time of 2:16.79. Behind Jaycobs was Olivia D'Aulerio, who grabbed second with a time of 2:18.93, while Savannah Shaw earned third place with a time of 2:23.00. In fourth was Dominique La Grenade, who crossed the finish line in 2:24.16, before Rachel November notched fifth with a personal best time of 2:25.72. Other notable finishers in the event were Maia Poremba (sixth, 2:27.89, personal best), Alice Sappenfield (seventh, 2:34.24), Emery Casucci (ninth, 2:36.12, personal best), Sophia Furman (10th, 2:38.42), Betty Baraki (12th, 2:42.37, personal best), Dalia Smid (13th, 2:44.61), and Katie Strutton (15th, 2:46.48, personal best).
Bianca Ortiz claimed first prize in the 1500 meters, clocking in a time of 5:27.56, before Jessie Hausman earned the third spot with a time of 5:34.93. Audrey Carter finished in fourth with a time of 5:34.93, a new personal best, while Claire Parsons (5:53.48, personal best) and Natalie Kruglyak (6:12.60) finished the race in eighth and ninth respectively.
In the high jump, Di Girolamo was the lone competitor, jumping to a height of 1.40 meters (4 feet, 7 inches).
Women's track and field will return to action on Friday, April 25, for the historic Penn Relays on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The College Women's 4x400 Centennial/MAC race at Franklin Field will begin at 7:20 p.m.
