Jaycobs Claims Gold in 800 meters, Women's Indoor Track & Field Ties for Seventh at CC Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Haverford College Women's Indoor Track & Field team tied for seventh place with Muhlenberg, finishing the two-day meet with 40 points as the Centennial Conference Championships wrapped up on Sunday, inside Schnader Field House. Anastasia Jaycobs shined on day two of the Championships, capturing first place in the 800 meters.

Jaycobs had a memorable 800 meters for the Fords, as the sophomore claimed first place with a time of 2:21.85, narrowly beating out Lorna Arcese of Johns Hopkins for a key 10 points in the Centennial Conference leaderboard. In eighth place was Savannah Shaw, who darted to a time of 2:24.33 for one point in the standings, followed by Jessie Hausman, who finished 18th with a time of 2:32.37.

The 400 meters saw Carly Priest achieve a new season best time of 1:06.89, while rookie Emery Casucci placed 23rd with a time of 1:09.49. Over at the 200 meters, Nadine Tang dashed to a time of 27.59, to place 17th.

Competing in the 3,000 meters, sophomore Grace Chen collected a new personal best, by finishing the 3K trek in 19th place with a time of 11:04.64. Joining Chen on the track was rookie Bianca Ortiz, who placed 25th with a time of 11:26.02. 

At the jumping pit, Grace Hannigan led a trio of Haverford competitors by placing 14th with a leap of 4.73 meters (15 feet, 6.25 inches). Just behind the sophomore was Beatrice Di Girolamo, who captured 16th place with a new personal best jump of 4.66 meters (15 feet, 3.5 inches). Capping off the long jump for the Fords was Ella Fleming, who grabbed 23rd with a jump of 4.48 meters (14 feet, 8.5 inches).

The duo of Di Girolamo and Fleming then moved on to high jump, as Di Girolamo (11th place) and Fleming (14th place) each recorded a distance of 1.34 meters (4 feet, 4.75 meters).

Following a historical day one, Sarah Wilcher returned to the throwing pit of Schnader Field House for the shot put. The junior launched the shot put 11.69 meters, to place fifth. Wilcher was joined by Summer Ryan, who tossed the shot put 10.51 meters (34 feet, 5.75 inches), good for 14th place and a new personal best.

The final event of the Centennial Conference Championships was the 4x400 meter relay, where the team of Rachel November, Dominique La Grenade, Hannigan, and Jaycobs finished in sixth place with a time of 4:14.57.

Johns Hopkins claimed first prize in the team standings for their 14th consecutive title, compiling a substantial 299.5 points. Placing second was Dickinson with 104 points, while Swarthmore took home third place with 73 points.

Next for the Haverford Women's Indoor Track & Field team is the Tufts National Qualifying Meet in Medford, Mass., on Saturday, March 8. This will be the last opportunity for the Fords to qualify for the NCAA Championships, scheduled for March 14 and 15 in Rochester, N.Y. The top 20 athletes in individual events and the top 12 relay teams will be selected to compete at the NCAA Championships.
