Wilcher's Record-Breaking Throw Highlights Day One at CC Indoor Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Haverford College Women's Track & Field team currently sits in fifth place with 22 points at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships. Day one at the Schnader Field House on the campus of Franklin & Marshall was highlighted by a Haverford program record-shattering throw by Sarah Wilcher to earn a silver medal.

Seeded 11th in the weight throw, Wilcher launched the weight an impressive 52 feet and two inches, a new personal best, and the new farthest throw in Haverford women's weight-throw history. The historic toss shattered the previous record of 46 feet and 4.25 inches from Unique Tuberville '20, earning Wilcher a silver medal in a crowded field.

In the 60 meter prelims, Nadine Tang yet again achieved a new personal best in the dash, racing to a time of 8.19 for ninth place, to cement herself seventh all-time in Haverford history in the event. Tang narrowly missed qualification to Saturday's final. Following Tang in 20th place was Zofi Sanders, who achieved a new personal best time of 8.75.

In the 5,000 meters Grace Chen led the way, placing 15th with a time of 19:31.27. Placing just behind Chen was Julianna Watson, who ended the 5k trek in 18th with a time of 20:15.80.

Competing in the women's pentathlon, Beatrice Di Girolamo and Ella Fleming first took on the 60 meter hurdles, as Di Girolamo placed fifth (10.08), followed by Fleming in ninth with a time of 10.78. Next up was the 800 meters, where Fleming notched fourth with a time of 2:38.27, before Di Girolamo collected 10th with a time of 2:49.59.

At the high jump, Fleming soared to a new personal best of 4.62 meters (15 feet, 2 inches), while Di Girolamo claimed ninth place with a distance of 4.48 meters (14 feet, 8.5 inches). Wrapping up the pentathlon was the shot put, as Di Girolamo tossed a distance of 8.78 meters (28 feet, 9.75 meters) for eighth place, while Fleming placed just behind the first-year in 10th, throwing a distance of 7.37 meters (24 feet, 2.25 inches).

In the jumping pit, Grace Hannigan finished 11th in the triple jump, leaping to a distance of 9.93 meters (32 feet, 7 inches).

The relays wrapped up the first day of the Centennial Conference Championships, as the team of Anna Berry, Adriana Cruz-Soto, Rachel November, and Tang, took home sixth place in the 4x200 meter relay.

Another sixth place finish was claimed in the 4X800 meter relay, as the quartet of Dominique La Grenade, Alice Sappenfield, Savannah Shaw, and Anastasia Jaycobs, ran to a time of 9:59.53. In the distance medley relay, the group of Shaw, November, La Grenade, and Jaycobs finished fourth with a time of 12:44.75. 

Following day one at the Centennial Conference Championships, the Fords will return to Schnader Field House on the campus of Franklin & Marshall for day two, with action slated to begin on Sunday, March 2, at 11 a.m.
