Men's Track & Field Marks Final CC Tune-Up at Keogh Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. -  The Haverford College men's track & field team competed in its final tune-up for the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday inside Alumni Field House, as the Keogh Invitational took to the track on campus. 

Senior Reed Solomon won the Eddie Papalia ('05) Memorial 800m trophy, crossing the finish line in 2:02.35 for 11th place overall. The event was named in memory of Papalia, a three-time track & field All-American who graduated from Haverford in 2005. Papalia passed away in June of 2012, and the race has been held in his memory since the 2013-14 season. Torin Pelton-Flavin also competed in the event, crossing 13th in 2:03.94. 

The squad had a strong showing in the 3,000-meter run, led by Joseph De Rosa, who placed second with a time of 9:08.83. Senior Seawon Park finished ninth in 9:44.19, competing in the indoor 3K for the first time, while sophomore Cullen Worth crossed the line in 10th place with a personal-best time of 9:53.42.

Haverford had a standout showing in the men's mile, led by senior Seamus Fraser, who dominated the race with a commanding first-place finish in a personal-best 4:22.92. Rookie Tate Sheehy put in an impressive performance, crossing the line in a personal-best 4:39.75 to finish in a tie for seventh place. 

Haverford athletes packed the middle of the field, with first-year Reef Kirchner (11th, 4:46.45), sophomore Gopal Patel (12th, personal-best 4:46.76), and senior Tommaso Wheeler (14th, personal-best 4:48.71) finishing in close succession. First-year Nicky Elias-Gillette clocked 4:52.75 for 15th place, while senior Kieran McDonnell rounded out the Fords' efforts with a 4:57.39 finish, securing 18th place.

The Fords put together a strong collective performance in the 60-meter dash, led by sophomore Zenas Boamah, who clocked 7.29 to secure 10th place with a new personal best and slide into the program top 10 list. First-year Nico Greene followed closely behind in 7.31, finishing 12th in a new personal record. Fellow first-year Niko Beros (16th, personal-best 7.35) and Samuel Lin (18th, 7.38) continued the Fords' solid showing, with senior Vir Goyal rounding out the sub-7.40 group in 7.39 for a new personal best while grabbing 19th place.

First-year Thomas Fendig (25th, 7.49) and junior Jackson Juzang (26th, 7.50) finished in succession, while first-year Mark Tringas (29th, personal-best 7.53), senior Nathan Ma (32nd, 7.58), and junior Jory Lee (33rd, personal-best 7.59) added depth to Haverford's contingent. Junior Jonah Hoffman-Weitsman (39th, 7.82) and sophomore Alex Geng (45th, 8.06) wrapped up the Fords' efforts in the event.

Haverford had a stellar showing in the 200-meter dash, led by Fendig, who secured third place with a time of 23.29 seconds. Greene followed closely, finishing sixth in 23.65 seconds. Goyal clocked in at 23.96 seconds, tying for 13th place, while Lin finished 16th in 24.10 seconds, just ahead of fellow Beros, who placed 17th with 24.12 seconds.

Boamah crossed the line in 24.30 seconds, earning 19th place, while sophomore Geng finished 33rd in 25.61 seconds. Hoffman-Weitsman rounded out Haverford's efforts with a 36th-place finish, recording a time of 26.54 seconds.

The men's 4x400 meter relay squad finished second among four entrants, passing the baton around in 3:43.76 as Kirchner, Patel, Solomon and Sheehy took the track for the Fords, eclipsed by only the Widener contingent who took the crown.

In the triple jump, Jory Lee took home the event title, clearing 13.41 meters in his final tune-up before looking to take the Centennial Conference crown in the event next weekend at Franklin & Marshall. 

Haverford had a brilliant turn in the long jump, with Mark Tringas leading the way. The rookie soared to a personal-best 6.47m (21 feet, 2.75 inches), securing first place in the event and pulling into the top 10 in program history. Junior Jackson Juzang also delivered a strong showing, finishing fifth with a mark of 5.98m (19 feet, 7.5 inches). Senior Nathan Ma rounded out Haverford's contingent, placing seventh with a jump of 5.85m (19 feet, 2.5 inches).

Men's Track & Field saw three athletes compete in the shot put, with Jason Mayo leading the way for the Fords with a best throw of 10.08m, securing 16th place. Junior Rocky Luan followed closely behind, registering a mark of 9.65m for 19th place. Senior Amon-Ra Kamit rounded out Haverford's efforts, finishing 21st with a throw of 8.89m, a new season-best. 

Haverford will now return to action next weekend at the Centennial Conference Championships, slated for March 1 and 2 at Franklin & Marshall. The action gets underway at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with the weight throw, while the majority of individual track events are contested Sunday.
