Dr. Danielle Lynch to Depart Haverford For Leadership Role at Pomona-Pitzer

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College Director of Athletics Dr. Danielle Lynch has announced she will depart the College in April 2026, taking the role of Chair of the Department of Physical Education and Director of Athletics at the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Southern California.

This planned transition allows the College to begin a national search for her successor, with the intent to have a new Director of Athletics in place for the start of the fall 2026 season.

"Danielle has capably led Haverford Athletics with commitments to both operational excellence and thoughtful strategic planning," said Dean of the College John McKnight. "I am grateful for her leadership and lasting contributions to Haverford."

Lynch joined Haverford Athletics in March 2022 and has played a central role in strengthening the department's operations, student support systems, and long-term strategic direction.

During her tenure, Lynch led the development of the Athletics Action Plan, a forward-looking roadmap designed to guide facility enhancements, improve competitive support for teams, and advance student well-being. The plan's major priorities include significant capital projects such as a full renovation of the tennis courts, expansion of the squash facilities, and resurfacing of Johnson Track and Walton Field.

As of fall 2025, the department implemented several enhancements under Lynch's leadership, including expanded dietitian and mental health support and the hiring of full-time assistant coaching positions for the men's and women's lacrosse programs.

Additional initiatives outline future investments in assistant coaching positions, expanded compensation for part-time coaches, and continued growth of leadership, wellness, and competitive-readiness programming.

Lynch, a New Jersey native, arrived at Haverford from Susquehanna University, where she served as Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and held responsibilities across NCAA compliance, diversity and inclusion efforts, and sport administration. She previously served in leadership roles at Penn State Harrisburg, where she founded the men's and women's track and field and cross country programs and coached six All-Americans and the institution's first national champion.

Lynch's earlier coaching career included positions at the United States Military Academy (West Point) and Bucknell University, where she worked with numerous school record holders and Patriot League champions.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University, a Master of Science in Education from Bucknell University, and a Doctorate in Lifelong Learning in Adult Education from Pennsylvania State University, where her research focused on the lived experiences of Black male professional athletes during ongoing social justice movements.
