Fords tame Huskies in season-ending men's squash finale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Haverford College men's squash team finished its season Sunday with a 5-4 Chaffee Division win over the University of Washington at the Men's Collegiate Squash Association national championship.

The win moves the Fords to No. 39 in the final national rankings. The loss drops the Huskies to No. 40.

The most exciting win of the day for Haverford came in the No. 7 slot between the Fords' Matt Liscovitz and Washington's Kevin Park.

Liscovitz broke on top with a 16-14 win in the first game but Park battled back with successive wins to forge a 2-1 lead, one game from the brink of victory. An 11-6 win by Liscovitz stalled Park's run, then another win, 11-8, in the fifth game completed the come-back to give Haverford the point.

The Fords earned 3-0 wins from Alex Spiliotes at No. 3 and Zeek Barnett at No. 9. Charlie Michele dropped his first game to Nathan Bilbao at No. 8 but rallied for three straight wins to pick up the point for Haverford. Chris Tyson, like Michele, also earned a 3-1 win.

Haverford finishes its first season under head coach Niki Clement with an 8-7 record while Washington ends the year with a 7-7 mark.
